What is Pictonico?
Pictonico! is a free-to-start mobile game from Nintendo and Intelligent Systems that turns photos from your camera roll into fast, WarioWare-style microgames. Each challenge lasts only a few seconds: tap a face, dodge an obstacle, feed a hungry boss, or react to absurd scenarios starring people you know.
The full library includes up to 80 minigames split across a free demo and two one-time paid volumes. Photos stay on your device — Nintendo states images are never uploaded to its servers and processing happens locally.
It is not a sequel to WarioWare: Snapped! or Face Raiders, but shares the same Nintendo lineage of photo-as-play experiments, now built for modern smartphones.
- Co-developed by Intelligent Systems (WarioWare studio)
- Touch-screen microgames using your real photos
- No subscription — one-time volume purchases only
- Works offline after initial setup and purchases
How to play
-
Install the free app
Download from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Pre-registration is available before launch. Do not sideload APKs from unofficial sources.
-
Grant photo access safely
On iOS, choose Selected Photos and pick only images you are comfortable using in minigames. On Android 14+, use the system photo picker for the same tight control.
-
Pick a free demo minigame
A starter set is unlocked immediately — no tutorial paywall. Each run takes about 30–60 seconds: read the prompt, your photo appears in the scene, complete the action.
-
Earn stars and unlock more
There is no penalty for failing — replay instantly to learn timing. When ready, purchase Volume 1 ($7.99) and/or Volume 2 ($5.99) to unlock the full roster.
Photo not detected?
- Use a well-lit photo with a clear, centered subject
- Faces should be front-facing; objects work best on plain backgrounds
- Re-pick the image or take a fresh photo inside the app
- Avoid heavy blur, extreme crops, or tiny subjects
Download & install
Pictonico! launches worldwide on May 28, 2026 for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. Install only from official storefronts to receive updates and secure billing.
A constant internet connection is not required for gameplay. Temporary network access is needed for first launch, purchasing volumes, and changing the in-game language.
Apple App Store
iOS — search Pictonico!
Google Play
Android — pre-register available
There is no official Switch, PC, or APK distribution outside Google Play.
Pricing & volumes
The app is free-to-start with a permanent demo. Unlocking all minigames requires two optional one-time in-app purchases — no gacha, gems, or subscriptions.
| Tier | Price | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Free download | $0 | App + demo minigames |
| Volume 1 | $7.99 | First paid pack (App Store canonical price) |
| Volume 2 | $5.99 | Second paid pack |
| Both volumes | $13.98 | Full ~80 minigame unlock (before tax) |
Recommended path: play the free demo first, then buy Volume 2 as the cheaper test. Purchase Volume 1 when you want the rest of the library.

Minigames catalog
Up to 80 microgames span the free demo, Volume 1, and Volume 2. Nintendo's trailer and store listing confirm examples such as feeding a hungry boss, red-carpet walks, nose-hair plucking, skydiving reunions, and friends turned shoot-'em-up bosses.
Face & family
Boss feeding, angry mom, dad's face mask, zip the mouth
Action & dodge
Best friend final boss, evasive maneuvers, muscle teacher
Silly & nostalgic
Wash away high-school memories, grandpa ballerina, red carpet
A full per-minigame list will expand after launch as players document each entry's name, volume, and photo input type.
Tips & photo setup
- Keep a small library of well-lit portraits, pet shots, and plain-background objects ready
- Learn tap vs swipe vs hold patterns — many minigames reuse the same input grammar
- Replay failed runs immediately; timing matters more than photo quality once detection works
- Use Block Photos and person-exclusion controls before playing with sensitive albums
- Take fresh photos in-app when album picks fail detection twice in a row
Privacy & parents
Nintendo states that photos are not transmitted to its servers. Processing for minigames happens on your device. You choose which albums and images the app may access.
For children, enable Screen Time (iOS) or Google Family Link purchase approvals before handing over the device. The game includes in-app purchases but no loot boxes or social chat.
- Selected Photos / Android photo picker for minimal exposure
- Block Photos to exclude specific images
- Person-exclusion options for faces you do not want in games
- Offline play after volumes are downloaded
How it compares
vs WarioWare: Snapped!
Same studio lineage; Pictonico uses still photos instead of DSi camera silhouettes, with ~80 games vs Snapped's smaller set.
vs Face Raiders
Face Raiders was a 3DS AR rail shooter; Pictonico is a modern photo-library microgame collection for phones.
vs WarioWare on Switch
Similar frantic pacing, but Pictonico is personalized with your camera roll and sold as a one-time mobile unlock.
